Above and Beyond

Greek mythology has many heroes, people who acomplished the impossible with a simple goal in mind, whether it was to restore their honor or repay a debt. The most well-known of these heroes is Hercules, but there were many more. Along with these heroes are royalty, witches, and just about every other character you'd expect to see in a well-written story.

Achilles: Achilles was a legendary warrior, and an invincible one at that. His mother dipped him in the River Styx when he was a baby, making him invincible. The only place he was vounerable was his heel, where his mother had held him when he was dipped in the river. He was killed when the prince Paris hit him in his heel (most stories say it was a poisoned dart.).

Heracles (A.K.A. Hercules): Heracles was another warrior, however, he was driven mad by Hera for being a son of one of Zeus's many lovers. Hera's madness caused Heracles to kill his family.  He took on twelve tasks (now known as the twelve Labors of Heracles) to repay his dues.

Jason: Jason led a group of explorers called the Argonauts to capture the Golden Fleece. He was tricked into finding it by his uncle Pelias, who stoloe the throne from Jason's family. The Golden Fleece was the fleece of the ram that carried the children Phrixos and Helle to safety.

Odysseus: Odysseus was a warrior in the Trojan War. He planned the famous Trojan Horse strategy. He was famous for taking a ten-year-long journey to get home, stopped by nymphs, the gods, cyclopes, and just about every other monster in Greek mythology. http://www.mythweb.com/odyssey/ has a cartooned version of the Odyssey.

Perseus: Perseus acomplished many feats over his life, but he is very famous for beheading the Medusa. He then used the stare of Medusa's head on a sea monster to save Princess Andromeda.

Theseus: Theseus was famous for killing the Minotaur, a crazed man-bull that 7 boys and 7 girls were sacrificed to every year.
